The Art of Wine and Beer Making
If you serve your red wine at cellar or room temperature and the
area is warmer in the summer, put the bottle in the fridge for 15
minutes before serving or run under cool water tap. This will take
the edge of warmth off without chilling it. Also, when storing your
wine, keep bottles of white wine closest to the floor where it is
the coolest
Storing bottled wine for extended periods below 10C (50F) can be
detrimental to the quality of your wine. The ideal range for storing
bottled wine is 13-21C (55-70F).
Keep your wine in a humid place between 50 to 60 percent. Anything
less than 50 percent and the corks may dry out. Once the cork dries
out, air enters the bottle and spoilage occurs.
Keep your wine bottles on their sides to keep the corks moist,
otherwise the corks dry out and let in unwanted air.
Vibration facilitates the aging process and can spoil your wines.
Example: Storing wine on top of a refrigerator or under stairs.
When storing your wine, keep it away from other odours, corks are
meant to breathe. Example: paint cans, cleaners or other chemicals
may enter your wine bottle and taint the taste of your wine
