PROBLEM SOLVING - BAD BEER

It’s easy to blame bad beer on products, recipes, etc.. but the first rule is to find the reason for the problem, then the solution to cure or prevent it from happening again. We hope the following will help you.

  • Maintain sanitation throughout the brewing process, especially when wort temperature fall below 71C.
  • Scratched surfaces on plastic brewing equipment harbor bacteria. Discard badly worn or scratched primary fermentators and syphon hoses.
  • Do not immerse anything in the cooled wort. Wooden spoons or hands can be a disaster.
  • Do not suck on syphon hoses, rather fill the hose with water in order to begin siphoning or use an Auto Siphon.
  • Clean fermentator immediately after each use.
  • Remove stains with a bottle brush or with a solution of Chlori-Clean and water.
  • Use a fermentation lock correctly. Keep it filled with 1 inch of water.
  • Do not aerate or splash your beer once fermentation has begun.
  • Do not use low grade plastic, as oxygen will pass through the plastic into your beer. Only food grade plastic should be used
